About coke？
Coke is the fuel after coal is distilled. It produces high heat when combusted and can reach a high temperature. Thus for the heavy industry with steam locomotive and steel industry as the core, coke is an indispensable fuel. Similar to coal, its surface has luster and pore matter. The pore matter is the part left after the components in the coal are removed during distillation (above 1300 ℃), which enhances the purity of coke and makes the combustion possible under a high temperature.
During distillation, the air with coal gas and carbon monoxide as the main components is generated. It once became the main component of the gas used at home but has now vanished as the natural gas is becoming more and more widely used.
In addition, the coal tar (the by-product), is the raw material for many kinds of chemical products such as sulfur and benzene.
